In a rather unorthodox addition to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, new virtual pets called Tomogunchis have been released for the game, parodying the Tamagotchi line of products. A player's Tomogunchi is displayed on an in-game, cosmetic wristwatch, which can be purchased as part of the Tomogunchi bundle from the Modern Warfare Store.
When the watch is equipped to a Modern Warfare player's loadout, the Tomogunchis will appear on the watch, beginning in an egg, then hatching, growing, and ultimately evolving based on a variety of measures of the player's performance in a match. Taking care of a this pixelated pet requires attention and maintenance though, without which it can die.

While in a match, players can check on their Tomogunchi at any time by pressing up on the d-pad. Images representing the moods "Hungry, Dirty, Unruly, and Sleepy" are shown on the right side of the watch, the absence of all of which means that the pet is happy and well taken care of. These moods are maintained through getting killstreaks, kills playing the objective, or winning games. If raised properly and attentively, a Tomogunchi will move from the stages of being an egg to a baby, child, teen, and then adult.

In addition, Tomogunchis can be evolved more quickly than usual via the bonus charge meter, which appears at the bottom of the watch screen, below the pet. Each pet has its own way of filling this meter, the listed methods for this being capturing objectives, planting bombs, placing in the top three on a winning team, or again, achieving killstreaks. Additionally, bonus charges can be stored via the "Watch Interact" gesture.
Activision's announcement post on the Tomogunchis offer a few other hints on how they'll function. For example, the existence of various hidden secrets, options, and forms for the pets is heavily implied. In addition, it seems that they can die from old age, as an adult pet is shown turning into a ghost while having no visible problems with mood.
Though some fans seem unhappy that Tomogunchis were announced instead of the upcoming Warzone mode, this is still a fascinating new feature. After all, regardless of whether players will be able to handle their newfound responsibility of pet ownership in a firefight, one almost needs to strangely admire the creativity and audacity it took to introduce a pet simulator into Call of Duty.
Call of Duty: Modern Warefare is currently available for PC, Playstation 4, and Xbox One.
