Halo: Combat Evolved is the first Halo title in the long-running series. Today, 343 Industries and Microsoft released its anniversary edition on Steam for PC, without any warning.
Halo: Combat Evolved was originally released in 2001, spawning a ton more games that defined the FPS genre in the new millennium, and changing how shooters evolved over the past decade. For the most part, Halo titles have been Xbox exclusives, but 343 Industries has started releasing the Halo titles on PC, with the original 2001 Halo the latest to be added.

Without any word to the public beforehand, Microsoft launched Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Edition on PC today, and gave the game some extra features. Originally released in 2011 for the Xbox, the anniversary edition celebrated 10 years of Halo games. According to the Steam library search page, Halo 1 will be the first of several Halo titles released on PC this year.
According to Steam, Microsoft not only added Halo: Combat Evolved on PC, but will also add Halo 3, Halo 4, Halo 2: Anniversary, and Halo 3: ODST to the Steam store in the upcoming months. These prices are current as of March 3, 2020:

The Steam version of Halo: Combat Evolved features the ability to swap between new and classic graphics, native support for 4k UHD res with 60 fps, adjustable FOV, and even customizable key bindings.
This is great news for Halo fans new and old. Many believe Halo: Combat Evolved is one of the best first-person shooters ever made, even ranking higher than Bioshock and Half-Life 2 according to Metacritic. It's great that players can now choose to play Halo on either Xbox or their PC, and that they offer better graphics and updates for PC.
This means that the entire collection of Halo games will be on PC for fans to play. The prices are a little high considering how old the games are, but since each game will most likely come with updated graphics and settings, it may be worth it for gamers who really love the originals. Hopefully, this means that other classic games will get the Halo: Combat Evolved treatment and end up on PC with better graphics in the coming years.
Halo: Combat Evolved is available for Xbox, Xbox 360, PC and Xbox One.
